Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Dough:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Slowly incorporate the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Knead and Rise:
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Shape and Second Rise:
  • Punch down the risen dough and transfer it back to the floured surface.
  • Knead in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
